Little Big Town’s Unforgettable Night at the Grand Ole Opry
One of the most memorable moments for Little Big Town took place on the night they were officially inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee. During this remarkable evening, the group teamed up with country music legend Vince Gill for a breathtaking rendition of “Why Me Lord,” which left everyone in awe, including the writer, who was covered in goosebumps from the moving performance.
The talented foursome—Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Jimi Westbrook, and Phillip Sweet—joined forces with Vince Gill to deliver a stunning version of the classic song. Originally written and recorded by country icon Kris Kristofferson back in 1972, “Why Me Lord” has been performed by countless artists over the years. However, this particular rendition is considered one of the best ever captured on video.
Interestingly, there was some controversy surrounding the performance. Vince Gill was reportedly informed about Opry policies that discourage performers from singing songs with overtly religious themes, especially ones that mention Jesus, to avoid offending non-Christian audience members. Despite this, Vince Gill chose to go ahead with the performance, and the crowd responded with overwhelming positivity.
