In 2017, a group of four fifth graders from New Braunfels Christian Academy in Texas wowed the audience with an unforgettable performance during the Elementary Talent Show. The students kicked off their act in a unique way, concealing themselves under a black cloth. When the cloth was lifted, the audience burst into laughter at the sight of the boys dressed in baby costumes, complete with small prosthetic legs they controlled with their arms. This clever and humorous opening set the tone for the rest of their performance.
As the performance progressed, the boys continued to amaze the crowd. Their dance routine was filled with energy, humor, and creativity as they moved to a series of popular songs. The crowd’s excitement grew even more when the group danced along to Taylor Swift’s hit song, “Shake It Off,” miming and grooving to the catchy chorus. However, the highlight of the performance came when the boys performed to Carl Douglas’s classic hit, “Kung Fu Fighting.” With the crowd on their feet, they showed off their kung fu moves in perfect sync, bringing their playful act to a triumphant conclusion.
This remarkable performance by the four fifth graders is not the only example of young students dazzling an audience. In 2014, eight fifth graders from Porter Elementary put on an equally entertaining talent show act that featured a synchronized swimming routine. Their “swimming” took place on a blue plastic sheet that served as a makeshift pool, with classical music playing in the background. The unique performance had the audience cheering and laughing throughout, showcasing the students’ creativity and ability to put on a show.
Both of these talent show acts have since gone viral, racking up over 30 million views combined. They are perfect examples of how school talent shows can be a stage for young students to express their creativity and entertain a crowd. While it’s no small feat to hold an audience’s attention for even a few minutes, these young performers managed to do so effortlessly, bringing smiles and laughter to everyone in attendance.
