Elton John Jokes About All the Organs He’s Had Removed, Says ‘There’s Not Much of Me Left’

Elton John recently made a humorous remark about the numerous organs he has had removed throughout the years due to various health issues. The legendary musician shared this lighthearted reflection while attending the New York Film Festival on October 1, where he gave a heartfelt speech in support of his latest documentary, Elton John: Never Too Late. Co-director R.J. Cutler and Elton’s husband, David Furnish, were also present at the event.

Following the film’s screening, the Rocket Man singer took the stage to discuss his personal health struggles, reflecting on the many medical procedures he has undergone over the decades.

Elton John Opens Up About His Surgeries and Health Challenges

With his signature wit, Elton joked, “There’s not much of me left, really.” He then went on to list the many surgeries he has had, stating, “I’ve had my appendix, tonsils, and adenoids removed. I’m officially done with prostate problems. I’m also missing my right hip, left knee, and right knee. My left hip is actually the only thing still intact.”

Despite the numerous medical procedures, the 77-year-old musician emphasized his gratitude for still being here and for the people who have supported him through it all. “I’m still here, and I owe so much to all of you for shaping who I am today.”

A Heartfelt Tribute to Family

In addition to reflecting on his health, Elton took a moment to express his deep appreciation for his husband, David Furnish, and their two sons, Zachary and Elijah. “I want to thank Zachary, Elijah, and David for making me the happiest man in the world,” he said, his voice filled with emotion.

Elton and David’s love story began in 1993 when they met and instantly connected. The couple entered into a civil partnership in 2005, and in 2014, after the legalization of same-sex marriage in the United Kingdom, they officially tied the knot.

Reflecting on the impact of his family, Elton said, “I found complete and utter happiness and bliss when I met David and had our children. I’ve never known joy like I do now.”

Retiring From Touring and Finding True Happiness

Elton John has enjoyed an illustrious career spanning over five decades, with countless hits and sold-out concerts worldwide. However, after performing his final Farewell Yellow Brick Road concert in Stockholm in July 2023, the music icon officially announced his retirement from touring.

“As you all know, I’m 77 years old, and I’ve decided to stop touring,” he told the audience. “With the completion of this documentary, I feel like I’ve accomplished all my musical dreams.”

Even though he is stepping away from touring, Elton reassured fans that his passion for music remains strong. “My family—David, Zachary, and Elijah—are the most important aspects of my life now, but that doesn’t mean I’m done with music. I still plan to create and explore new projects. I’ve found my nirvana.”

Elton John’s influence on the music industry is immeasurable. From his groundbreaking performances to his advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights and philanthropy, he has cemented himself as one of the most legendary artists of all time. His documentary, Elton John: Never Too Late, serves as both a celebration of his life’s work and a personal reflection on his journey.
