Heartwarming Moment: Iowa Waitress Honors Breastfeeding Mom with Touching Gesture at Pizza Restaurant

Jackie Johnson-Smith was enjoying a family meal at a pizza restaurant in Iowa when an unexpected act of kindness left her deeply moved.

“I’ve breastfed all three of my children,” she shared on Facebook, accompanied by a photo of her dinner receipt. “I’ve done it in countless places—some public, some private—during good times and bad. Over the years, I’ve received my fair share of stares and uncomfortable looks. But tonight? Tonight wiped all that negativity away.”

This was Jackie’s first time dining at Fong’s Pizza. While enjoying the meal, her baby became fussy, so she discreetly breastfed her child in the booth. Eventually, she decided to leave the table early to avoid causing any disturbance in the restaurant.

What happened next brought her to tears. Her husband stayed behind to settle the bill, and that’s when the waitress handed him the receipt. Scribbled on the bottom was a heartwarming message that touched Jackie deeply.

“I was overwhelmed with emotion and couldn’t even speak,” Jackie recalled. “It’s not like I deserve a medal for feeding my child, but the gesture was so powerful. It’s amazing how women can lift each other up and offer support in such simple yet meaningful ways.

The kind note came from Bodi Kinney, the waitress serving their table that evening. Speaking with local news outlet KCCI 8 in Des Moines, Bodi explained her motivation. “Breastfeeding is something we need to support one another in. It’s so important that women come together, encourage each other, and make this natural process a little easier.”
