In today’s world, sharing our lives online often invites others to share their opinions—whether we ask for them or not. This young couple, Matt and Brittany Montgomery, has faced criticism simply because they enjoy posting pictures of their life together on social media. However, their response to the negativity is nothing short of brilliant, reminding us all of the importance of staying true to ourselves.
Matt and Brittany’s story might sound familiar at first—two people meet, fall in love, and start building a life together. But there’s one detail that sets their relationship apart: Matt is significantly larger than Brittany. Despite the initial assumptions people might make about their differences, the couple’s bond has only grown stronger in the face of outside judgment.
Brittany’s journey to self-acceptance wasn’t an easy one. Growing up, her strict upbringing often made her feel out of place, and those difficult family dynamics took a toll on her self-confidence. She struggled with her body image for years, unsure if she’d ever feel truly comfortable in her own skin. As a plus-sized woman, she encountered two types of men: those who pressured her to lose weight and those who were only interested in her curves. After a series of unsuccessful relationships, Brittany was nearly ready to give up on finding love altogether.
But life had other plans for her. In August 2020, Brittany connected with Matt online. Though they looked different on the outside, their souls instantly clicked. Brittany admitted she had her doubts at first, worried that Matt might be like the other men who had previously made her feel insecure. “I was hesitant,” she said. “I’ve been in relationships where guys told me they would leave if I didn’t start dieting. It hurt my confidence, and I even tried to change my size at one point.”
Thankfully, Matt saw beyond appearances. Their love grew stronger, and in January 2022, he proposed. As the couple began planning their future, they also had to navigate how others perceived their relationship. Some strangers on Instagram would comment on Matt’s photos, questioning whether he was “man enough” for Brittany due to their size difference. “I do notice people staring when we walk down the street,” Matt shared.
Despite the rude comments, Matt and Brittany remain unfazed. They are deeply in love and refuse to let others’ judgments affect their happiness. Matt’s previous relationships with women of a more “average” size didn’t bring him the same joy that Brittany does. He knows she is his soulmate and proudly expresses his love for her every chance he gets. Recently, Matt told Brittany, “You are worthy of infinite love every single day. The way we feel for each other shows me that we are meant to be.”
In their own way, Matt and Brittany are working to normalize relationships between people of different sizes. Brittany wishes that “mixed-weight relationships were more common,” hoping they could eventually become the norm.
To add to their joy, the couple recently announced they are expecting their second child in September 2023. As they prepare for this new chapter in their lives, they continue to show the world that love knows no bounds, and everyone deserves to be loved just as they are.
