The Power of a Mother’s Love: A Heartbreaking Reminder of “What Goes Around, Comes Around”

*Do we ever really stop to think about the saying, “What goes around, comes around”? Often, we make decisions without fully understanding the impact they may have on others. Luckily, life has a way of reminding us to show more consideration.

There was a man who decided to move his mother into a nursing home after his father passed away, as he could no longer care for her by himself. She wasn’t happy there, and he only visited her occasionally.

One day, he received news that his mother’s condition had worsened. She had lost all sensation and seemed to be nearing the end of her life.

The son rushed to the nursing home. As soon as he arrived, he went straight to his mother’s room to see if there was anything he could do for her.

Looking him directly in the eyes, the mother said she had only a few requests. Upon hearing this, the son promised to fulfill her final wishes.

His mother then told him that sometimes she felt suffocated by the fans in her room and wanted them replaced. She added, “If you could also replace the refrigerator… There were times when the food spoiled, and I went to bed hungry.”

The son was stunned. He had no idea his mother had been suffering like this. In disbelief, he asked her why she hadn’t told him sooner. It was too late now.

“I know I’m going to die,” she said, looking deep into his eyes. “But I think of you, and how one day your children may not want you close to them, either. They may place you in a place like this. You’ll come here, and you’ll see things are better now. You get back what you give, remember that.”

Her words shattered the son’s heart. He realized then that he had made a terrible mistake by leaving her in the nursing home against her wishes.

It’s our responsibility to make sure our parents live out their later years happily and comfortably. We must never forget that.
