Controversy struck when Selleck was accused of illegally taking water from the Calleguas Municipal Water District during the drought. Reports suggested that he transported water from a hydrant to his property on multiple occasions, ignoring cease-and-desist orders from authorities. Eventually, Selleck was ordered to pay $21,000 for the investigation and damages.
